Efficiency Enhancement Through Automation in Machining
The automated machining of components with increased weight places special demands on CNC machining machines, clamping technology, and handling systems. This video shows the expansion of the production process of a HWACHEON Hi-Tech 450BL YMC machining machine with a SherpaLoader® M50 to efficiently automate the machining process of heavy components. The shown automation solution demonstrates how raw components weighing 40 kilograms can be machined efficiently and precisely. This reduces cycle time and the number of manual interventions – while simultaneously increasing process reliability and spindle runtime.
Automated Machining with the HWACHEON Hi-Tech 450BL YMC
With its camera-based detection technology, the SherpaLoader® M50 captures the raw parts on the material storage to determine the exact orientation and position of the workpieces. This technology allows safe identification even with irregularly placed components. The position independence reduces requirements for manual component positioning on the material storage and minimizes error-related downtimes. Subsequently, the SherpaLoader® M50 picks up the first raw part with an adapted raw part gripper and places it on a pre-positioning plate for length referencing. This step forms the foundation for precise further processing. The component is then inserted with its lateral surface into a prism to compensate for possible angled cuts from pre-material processing. The alignment in the prism ensures reproducible clamping position and increases process reliability and repeatability. This ensures consistent component quality. The SherpaLoader® M50 takes over the precisely positioned component and automatically places it into the three-jaw chuck of the HWACHEON Hi-Tech 450BL YMC. After leaving the workspace, machine processing begins. Once the component machining is completed, the SherpaLoader® M50 removes the finished part using a finished part gripper from the HWACHEON Hi-Tech 450BL YMC and places it back on the material storage. In this work step, the next raw part is already picked up for positioning on the pre-positioning plate. The continuous automation ensures smooth material flow, reduces auxiliary times, and enables consistently high utilization of the machining machine.
